Kanaya-yakushi
"Although it is a country, we look down Takada as a flower of medicine of Kanaya"

Iouji-yakushido is the hall of Medicine Buddha sung to the folk song "Yone Taisyu". It is located on this side right which went up the slope. The " Buddha sedentary statue" (It's said that it was created in the Nara period) of a country specification important cultural property is dedicated here as the principal image.
It was built by mother Katsuko (Takada princess), Kanei era every year and the Takada daimyo-with-a-castle chief, Mr. Mtunaga Matsudaira.

"Which medicinal herb in a shelf should I make a pillow, and sleep?"
Mr. Matsuo Basho stayed in Naoetsu and in Takada during his travel that is called "Okuno Hosomichi". In 1689, he visited Mr. Shunan Hosokawa who was a doctor in Takada and made this haiku. This stone tablet inscribed with a haiku is built on this side left (under the hotel which is named Taibeikan) which has gone up the contrary of a hall of the Medicine Buddha, and the slope.
Takada incident monument

The storm of Freedom and People's Rights Movement famous for Taisuke Itagaki blew violently also in Joetsu. The Kubiki Liberal Party was formed after Meiji 14 Taisuke Itagaki's campaign in November, and movement spread to Joetsu quickly. And, the suppression incident "the Takada incident" to the Kubiki Liberal Party occurred in Meiji 16, and 37 persons' member of the party was put into them in the prison.

In Boshin war that blew violently on the Meiji Restoration, the Takada han took lessons from the new government army side, and fought with the old government army, such as Aizu. In front of Iouji, the cemetery where the person killed in war of Satsuma, Choshu, and the soldiers in Takada were killed in war in Nagaoka and Aizu are deified is in the case of the Battle of Boshin.

Here, it is also the grave of the younger brother of Takamori Saigo killed in war here. 1742 soldiers of the Aizu han which lost the Boshin war were accommodated in Teramachi's temple as the body of penitence. And they had a very difficult life in Takada for a year.
67 people were killed between them. It is the cemetery where the men were buried. The people who stopped at Takada behind are also buried here. There were Masayasu Nakagawa who rendered the medical world and Nanmauhoh who stopped at Takada and became the principal of a private school of a right heart school building in soldier accommodated in Takada.
